One of the best examples of understanding the benefits of delegating comes from the bible in Exodus, Chapter 18.

This is the story of Jethro, the father-in-law of Moses when he came to Moses in the desert.

Moses would take his seat to serve as judge for the people, and they would gather around him from morning till evening. Jethro asked Moses what he was doing for the people and why he alone sat as judge with all the people around him all day long.

Moses answered saying whenever people had a dispute the people would come to him and he would resolve the issues. Jethro told Moses that what he was doing was not good.

He went on to explain that by doing all this work alone he would wear himself out and that he couldn’t handle it by himself.

Jethro went on to suggest that Moses select capable, trustworthy men and appoint them as officials over thousands, hundreds, fifties and tens.

Jethro knew the benefits of delegating and if Moses was to have great success in his efforts, he should delegate which in turn would get more issues resolved and he would not feel the burden as heavy and not wear himself out.

This is a very simple principle, that of delegating. Once you understand that you cannot accomplish all the things that need be done alone, and start delegating responsibilities to others, your life will change dramatically as well as the situation around you.
