Are We Hooked on Instant Hand Sanitizer

Has our society lost touch with the reality of sanitizing?

Has our society lost touch with the reality sanitizing?

Have we become a society that thinks we can control every aspect of the world we live in? Take the H1N1 virus as an example and how it has created a shortage on instant hand sanitizer.

This past week we have gotten more orders on the stuff than prett much all of last year. Schools, healthcare facilities, daycares, everybody wants instant hand sanitizer. The problem is manufacturers like Purell are out, back ordered. Sure it’s good to be careful, after all, nobody wants to get the flu and especially H1N1.

But things have gone overboard. I sent out an email of a new stand and touch free dispenser that holds the instant hand sanitizer and within an hour I got an order for all we had from a local school. And it snowballed from there.

One of the local colleges sent out an email to all the colleges in their network and all of a sudden we got orders for more instant hand sanitizer from some college in timbucktoo.

Then I get this email from another university and they are interested in masks, coveralls, asprin and just about anything else that would help them become “sanitized”. I suggested that they simply get a “bubble” like the one in the John Travolta movie, “Boy In A Bubble” or whatever it was called for each student and staff member.

Ok, enough is enough already.

We are going to sanitize ourselves out of existance one squirt at a time. Though this stuff is suposed to be safe I started thinking. If it kills germs and we are rubbing it onto our hands and oh, our skin is absorbing it, what do you think it is killing once in our bodies. Could it be that all this instant hand sanitizer is also killing our immune systems? Duh!

How do you think MRSA became such a bad bug? We over sanitized and the bad bugs got tougher and started morphing. Thus, a super bug that can kill.

Now I’m not against instant hand sanitizers they have their place. Just use common sense and don’t over do it, don’t sanitize your hands everytime you climb out of your bubble.

  1. [...] I found a really good article on instant hand sanitizer that compares our society to the “boy in a bubble” which just about sums it up. Read it here… [...]

  2. [...] Now we have super bugs like H1N1 virus and MRSA and everywhere you turn people are using hand sanitizer. You will find it in schools, hospitals (which I understand) but you will also find it in theaters, on department store counters, at the 7-11, banks anywhere you turn. As I stated in an earlier post, we might as well live like the boy in a bubble. [...]
